Some tips and tricks to help you get the shot you want

Most people use digital cameras nowadays and the beauty of these are you can take lots of shots and delete the ones you don't want so don't be shy keep clicking the shutter button you might get 2 or 3 photos with good parts that i can combine to create 1 cracking drawing.

Try to fill the frame with your subject you are more likely to capture the detail I need to bring your pencil drawing to life.

If taking photos of your car try and park up with little or nothing at the side of it except for open space as reflections in the shine can be distracting, also try lots of different angles and see which you prefer.

When taking photos of animals try using a longer zoom so as not to distract your subject although if you do get the chance then get in close for the detail.

Try to get down on the same level as your pet even if this means lying down on the floor you will be amazed at the difference, the same thing if you taking photos of a motorbike, it is good to capture all the detail in the engine close up, and then take some other photos from further away this enables me to draw all the detail of the engine.

Correct lighting or light is very important if taking photos inside try using the natural light coming through the windows you can even make a home made reflector out of kit foil and cardboard to reflect some light onto your subject. if taking photos outside then use the softer light of a early morning or late afternoon, midday sun tends to be harsh and too bright and can result in burnt out highlights.

A big tip with photos of animals is to try and get the catch lights in the eye, try and focus the camera on the eye of your subject if the eye is in sharp focus then it brings the photo to life.

Above all be patient if your pet doesn't want to play the game then try again at a later time.

I hope these tips are of some help, photographing static subjects if a lot easier than taking photos of pets and animals so be patient and you will get that shot.
